John’s diverse career has seen him work in private enterprise, politics, the NSW public sector, philanthropy and the NGO sector. Especially skilled at developing and articulating strategic vision around organisation change his excellent ability with people results in high levels of stakeholder engagement. John has often been called upon to deliver ‘no-fuss’ resolutions to crises.
From construction projects like the Walsh Bay redevelopment and the re-development of the Conservatorium of Music, to reform of the Community Service Order Scheme and the Intensive Corrections Orders John is very proud of the long list of successful projects he has been involved with.
Most recently John has been working in the philanthropic and not-for profit sector establishing a new philanthropic foundation for a leading property development and investment company; guiding a unique drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity through a process of organisational change and restructure; and establishing a not-for- profit social enterprise agri-business on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
John deeply believes in empowering people and facilitating collaboration both internally and externally. Passionate about the need to resolve entrenched social disadvantage and inequality and how these limit a person achieving their potential, John is an advocate of pursuing best practice, outcome focus solutions with a ‘prevention is better than cure’ ideology.
Establishing consensus, allowing individuals to utilise their unique strengths and abilities is at the core of John’s approach.
Executive Manager Childrens Services
Niki joined Community First Step in 2017 and was promoted to Executive Manager of Children’s Services the following year. She has over 10 years’ experience managing a range of early childhood services within large corporate companies. Niki is passionate and believes that Early Childhood educators have a significant role to play in each child’s life. As such she is committed to continuous professional development opportunities for both herself and staff to ensure their skills and knowledge remain current and in the best interest of the children and Early Childhood Services.
Niki is a Justice of the Peace and holds a Certificate III, Diploma and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care.
Executive Manager Community Services
Usha has been appointed Executive Manager Community Services since November 2017. Prior to this Usha has spent the last 15 years working her way up through the organisation. Originally accessing CFS services as a new migrant and then volunteering, her experience in this sector has inspired her to work in community services – creating opportunities. Usha take great pride in working with culturally diverse communities, is passionate about creating safe environments for children and families, and is a strong advocate of enhancing opportunities for newly arrived migrants and refugees through education and employment.
Executive Director Disability Servies
Joe has over 20 years’ experience managing services in small and large non-profit organisations, including supported accommodation and disability services under the NDIS. Joe started his career as a social worker before taking on management roles working with young people facing homelessness, vulnerable children and families and more recently the provision of therapeutic services under the NDIS. Joe has a Masters of Community Management and is currently completing a Law Degree to further his commitment to social justice. Joe is dedicated to making a difference where is counts and achieving sustainable outcomes that benefits all parts of the community.
Marlon has held the position of Finance Manager for Community First Step since 2017. With several years of experience in financial and management accounting, Marlon brings his passion for internal controls, process efficiencies, capital development and financial reporting to CFS. Marlon’s wealth of experience came primarily from the health care industry where he most recently worked as the Regional Commercial Manager for Ramsay Health Care’s Northside Group of Hospitals.
People & Culture Officer
Mustafa joined Community First Step in June 2017 as the HR Officer. As a HR Generalist, Mustafa brings knowledge and skills which facilitate organisational strategies in People and Culture. Prior to joining CFS, he worked with a variety of organisations including IBM and Telenor, where he managed different organisational development projects. With a passion for systems and technology, Mustafa is committed to continuous improvement initiatives and working with CFS Management and staff to improve HR processes and achieve organisational excellence.
